Treatment in ayurveda is just like rearranging a puzzle. Medicines act from clearing the excess to filling the voids and helping them sustain. The action or effect of any matter depends on it's properties. Any effect apart from the expected shall be called a side effect. Not necessary that it be harmful everytime, though the term 'side effect' is mostly misunderstood for being harmful. In solving a puzzle knowledge of both the board and the blocks are equally important. Board being the living system, has got a unique constitution. The vast and wide range of action of the matter or medicine is thus like a blessing in disguise to the person who is attempting this puzzle. Most of the puzzle blocks might appear to suit many voids. But that most accurate block will have to be found from them. Similarly finding the best drug requires, a proper analysis of the constitution of the patient and a basic knowledge in the properties of matter. If the choice of drug isn't right, apart from reducing the symptoms it may alter the physiology in some way or harm the whole system. Most of it remains unremarkable but is sure to have role in the run of life. So while you decide to take ayurvedic medicine let it be with the complete knowledge of a physician.
